Cass Community prepped and ready for summer projects

April 25, 2016

By joining the tiny-house movement, Cass Community Social Services has found a unique way to help combat homelessness.

Nearly 20 A Time to Help volunteers — including S.A.Y. Detroit founder Mitch Albom and Ken Brown, Albom’s radio co-host — spent Saturday morning cleaning and prepping Cass Community’s main warehouse that will be used for construction of the nonprofit’s tiny home community expected to take root this summer.

The volunteers formed three groups and cleared equipment, sorted paper and outlined on the warehouse floor two of the planned designs for the tiny houses.

Rev. Faith Fowler, executive director of Cass Community, gave a presentation before the project, and thanked Albom and his volunteer group for their help in clearing space in the warehouse before construction begins.

A Time to Help was established in 1997 by Albom to galvanize Detroit volunteerism on a regular basis. Please join us at our next event May 21 as we help a beautification project in Hamtramck.
