A Year In Review: SAY Detroit Impact Report 2023
Your donations make the difference. Your dollars allow SAY Detroit to fulfill its mission to provide pathways to success for Detroiters in need. Because of you the SAY Detroit Health Clinic filled 3,309 patient visits in 2022. The SAY Detroit Play Center helped students complete 8,000 homework assignments, which prepares them for the next day of classes and keeps attendance rates soaring. And Mi-Cycle repaired and donated 400 bicycles to adults and children in need of transportation. Thank you!
Partnering for Success
We accomplish so much more by collaborating with community partners. Check out this blog post by Boys Hope Girls Hope and learn about the partnership forged by two leaders, SAY Play’s very own Eric Reed and Boys Hope Girls Hope’s Rebecca Limbaugh.
The Relationship Between Health and Nutrition
The topic for the SAY Health Clinic’s August Wellness Wednesdays meeting was nutrition. The audience of primarily seniors gathered at the Ernest T. Ford Recreation Center to learn about the benefits of healthy eating from Dr. Charanpreet Khangura, an internist at Dedicated Senior Medical Center in Warren.
Calling All Volunteers
For the second time this year, A Time to Help will be returning to Motown Soup, a volunteer driven nonprofit that packages and sells soup and dip mixes to benefit other nonprofits and community organizations that feed the homeless and hungry.
Welcome Home
On Thursday, Aug. 17 SAY Detroit’s Working Homes/Working Families (WHWF) welcomed a SAY Play family into their own home, just steps away from SAY Play where the kids spend most of their after-school hours.
Thanks to WHWF team: General Motors, Humble Design, BL Construction, and Lowe’s for making the dream of home ownership come true for a SAY Play family.
SAY Play Summer Camp Highlights!
The SAY Play Summer Camp wrapped up on Thursday, Aug. 17. The camp was filled with learning, field trips and general fun.
Team Wellness Center, a certified behavioral health clinic which provides behavioral and physical health services, came by the SAY Play camp and offered free teeth cleanings and x-rays for to our 3rd – 5th grade students. Students with a signed permission slip were able to participate in the free service. Thank you Team Wellness Center!
As part of the SummerSlam Week in the Community, WWE honored SAY Play by visiting summer camp students on the grounds of SAY Play and donating $20,000. Everyone had a great time and SAY Play is thankful for the donation.
