SAY Detroit receives $1 Million commitment from Clarence & Jack Himmel Foundation

April 26, 2023

The grant of $1 million, finalized in late March 2023, will help propel the completion of the Kelly and Matthew Stafford & Friends Education Center, on the grounds of the SAY Detroit Play Center at Lipke Park in northeast Detroit. With $750,000 earmarked to help with the completion of the Clarence & Jack Himmel Theater and $250,000 dedicated to general SAY Play programming, the donation will surely make an impact on the lives of young people in the Osborn area.

We are proud to support the mission of SAY Detroit and the role it plays in the development of youth in the Detroit community.

Construction is now underway for the Kelly and Matthew Stafford & Friends Education Center. The Annex, as commonly referred, will feature a 15,000-square-feet in added space and will include classrooms, learning labs and a theater. It will allow SAY Detroit to expand its services and house a wide range of programming, including vocational and technical training for adults. Kelly and Matthew Stafford donated $1 million to launch the expansion of SAY Play and were later joined by the A.A. Van Elslander Foundation with an additional $1 million towards the project. Thank you to our leadership donors!
