S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center Takes the Stage During Thanksgiving Game

November 28, 2015

Mayor Mike Duggan, Matthew Stafford, and Mitch Albom were featured in an inspiring video before Thursday’s Lions football game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The trio shared the story of the recent reopening (and renaming) of the S.A.Y. Play Center. Also featured were interviews with some of the Center’s members.

After a full year of construction, hard work, volunteer efforts, generous donations, and a passion-driven dream, S.A.Y. Detroit  proudly refurbished and reopened a recreation center that puts the children of Detroit first. Students are given the opportunity to come use a state-of-the-art Notes for Notes recording studio, play ball on the Matthew Stafford Football Field, practice passing in the basketball gym, but only if they maintain a 3.0 grade average, spend at least an hour on their homework and studying, and have no more than 3 school absences a semester. The Center has partnered with volunteers from all over the metro-Detroit area to work with students to improve their test scores and overall GPA, set goals , and provide a safe place to be after school.
