For the nearly 30 women who attended March’s Wellness Wednesdays’ discussion and luncheon, self-love and self-care are harmoniously intertwined.
“Tell me then, how do you show self-love?’’ Alexis Harvey, facilitator of the SAY Clinic’s monthly women’s support group, asked the mostly senior-aged attendees from Highland Park and Detroit.
“I have some time to myself everyday — phone off, no visitors,’’ said one of the participants.
“I meditate,’’ said another.
“I do something that I enjoy, like reading or sewing, or researching something I don’t know about.’’
“I do affirmations every morning – positive, in the first person, and present tense.’’
“I read Psalm 71 and 91.’’
Prioritizing nutritious eating, sleep and rest are other ways to stay on the self-love train, Harvey said. So, too, are affirmations that can be practiced daily.
“Self-care is necessary,’’ she said. “Choose the things that bring you happiness.’’
SAY Detroit is grateful that Wellness Wellnesdays returns next month — April 16 — at the Ernest T. Ford Recreation Center.
