A Time to Help Volunteers Help Senate Theater Sparkle and Shine

June 20, 2016

“Dazzling!” “Amazing!” “Brings me so much joy!” These were just some of the compliments A Time to Help volunteers received from Detroit Theater Organ Society members as we helped clean up the Senate Theater in Detroit.

This past Saturday volunteers took to the stage (literally!) as they cleaned concession stands, restrooms, theater chairs and gave the stage a fresh coat of paint.

Senate Theater Board of Director and long-time A Time to Help volunteer Joan Brown told us “Usually there’s only three of four of us to clean this place up and it takes days. We are so grateful for everyone’s help today.”

The cleaning was even accompanied by a few spontaneous piano performances by Mitch Albom himself! Check out this link to see him play a beautiful rendition of “Over the Rainbow“.

The Senate Theater in Detroit is home to a 4/34 Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ that was moved from Detroit’s Fischer Theater in 1962. One of our volunteers has played the organ is entire life and sat down to give the group a preview of what this amazing instrument can do. Click here to see the video.

Our next project will be on July 9th. Stay tuned for more updates!
