An Exciting New Service Comes to S.A.Y. Clinic

June 25, 2014

The S.A.Y. Detroit Family Health Clinic has a philosophy for healing that encompasses all of the physical, social, and psychological needs of the patient. It has been well documented in research that social and psychological problems can lead to pain, anxiety, and ultimately disease. We are always looking for effective modes of therapies to address all the needs of our patients.

We have been fortunate to have a new provider join our staff as a volunteer at the clinic. Larissa (Lara) McMahon is an expert in chiropractic medicine. Apart from her energy and knowledge, Dr. Lara utilizes a unique and effective method called the Koren Specific Technique. Developed by Tedd Koren in 2003, this new technique has been shown in clinical studies to be effective and that adjustments last for longer periods of time, thus providing better relief.

What is the Koren method? It is a three-step process that utilizes the Three Cs: Challenging, Checking, and Correcting.

Step 1: Challenging

The first step, “Challenging,” is a short procedure during which the entire structure of the bodily system is evaluated and analyzed.

Step 2: Checking

“Checking” is the second step and determines if the body part is in its proper position. The base of the skull and alignment of the spinal cord are examined during this process.

Step 3: Correcting

When an adjustment is needed, the area is corrected — this is the third step. The correction is achieved with the use of an apparatus called the Arthrostim adjusting instrument. This instrument is FDA-approved and has been used for 22 years. It introduces energy/force/information through a series of 12 taps per second. Because of the fine nature of the instrument, it can align the specific area of the body that needs adjustment. Older chiropractic procedures, meanwhile, adjust larger segments of the body.

Results at S.A.Y.

So far, patients that have had this adjustment have claimed pain relief, improved sleeping habits, the elimination of migraine headaches, and a general sense of feeling better.

We welcome Dr. Lara and thank her for her service.
