Community Center Clean Up

April 28, 2014

Ravendale – April 26 – Fifty volunteers from A Time to Help worked  to haul debris and rearrange desks, tables, and cabinets at the future site of the new Ravendale Community Center located on Outer Drive in Detroit.

In less than two hours, workers filled a large dumpster and swept and cleaned out the entire first floor of the abandoned Duke Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art building.  Also on hand was Ravendale Community, Inc. Founder Toni McIlwain, who exclaimed, “Now we can see the floors!”

The new community center, which McIlwain says should be open later this year, will be home to several area non-profits as well as culinary and computer classes, a job referral and job search program, summer and after school youth programs, and much more.
