A Time to Help is teaming with SAY Detroit’s Working Homes/Working Families program for a special one-day volunteer event: Working with two separate teams — morning and afternoon — we’re going to do an outdoor beautification project to improve the front and back yards of a Hamtramck family who needs our help.
Shift #1 volunteers will mostly be clearing and prepping the space for the afternoon shift. Tasks include clearing debris (some heavy lifting required), shoveling, trimming and removing shrubbery, etc.
Shift #2 volunteers will be doing some minor landscaping such as planting and mulching.
Date: Friday, April 22, 2022
Time for Shift #1: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Time for Shift #2: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Where: Working Homes / Working Families House, 5214 Yemans St., Hamtramck, MI, 48212
Parking: As parking on Yemans — a one-way street — is extremely tight, we recommend volunteers taking the shuttle bus that will be provided for the project. The shuttle will be leaving the parking lot of Imperial Fresh Market (5800 Caniff, MAP HERE), located about a quarter mile (5 min walk) from the project site. The SAY Detroit shuttle (15 seats) is white and clearly marked with our nonprofit logo. We thank Jack, Mary and the Imperial Fresh Market team for your support!
For Shift #1 volunteers, the shuttle will leave the Imperial lot and drop volunteers off at the corner of Alpena Ave and Yemans, two houses away, approximately every 15 minutes: 9:15 am, 9:30 am and 9:45 am. The shuttle will return volunteers to the lot at 12:15 pm, 12:30 pm, and 12:45 pm.
For Shift #2 volunteers, the shuttle will leave the Imperial lot at approximately 12:15 pm, 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm. It will return to the lot after the project ends at 3:15 pm, 3:30 pm and 3:45 pm.
Volunteers Needed: 30 (15 per shift)
Attire/Other Info: All tools, including work gloves, will be provided. Pleased be dressed for the weather, and work boots are recommended. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. All volunteers are welcome to work both shifts.
