On Saturday, February 21, eleven A Time to Help volunteers helped serve Detroit’s homeless at the Pope Francis Center, a nonprofit day center committed to eradicating chronic homelessness in our city since 1990. Operating out of the Saints Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, the day center provides meals from its state-of-the-art kitchen, laundry facilities, showers, restrooms, shaving stations, and a clinic space for medical, dental and legal professionals to provide free support its guests. Our volunteers worked an early morning shift serving breakfast and lunch, cleaning showers, working in the laundry, and assisted in distributing hygiene kits and clothing items.
By the end of the day, our volunteers had served 227 meals and assisted over 200 guests.
