Volunteers Needed at S.A.Y. Detroit Clinic

December 01, 2011

The S.A.Y. Detroit Family Health Clinic needs dedicated volunteer physicians and nurse practitioners (NP) to help us fulfill the mission of providing FREE healthcare to underserved women and children in the Detroit area. Located at 211 Glendale Street in the city of Highland Park, the Clinic currently sees close to 7,000 patients a year who are in desperate need of healthcare.

Economic forces in the Detroit area continue to degrade the quality of traditional healthcare – with many individuals losing their jobs and subsequently losing their healthcare benefits.  Previously receiving 50-60 new patients a month, the clinic now gets 115 to 125 new patients a month because of the changes in the economic environment. This new influx of patients and a shortage of practitioners has resulted in a backlog.

We are in need of practitioners in the areas of Primary Care, Family Health, Pediatrics, Gynecology, ENT, Dermatology, Nephrology, Orthopedics, and Podiatry. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9AM to 10PM and Saturdays from 9AM to 5PM. However, we are most in need of doctors/NPs that are available Monday to Friday from 1PM to 5PM, Wednesday or Thursday evenings and any time on Saturday.

The clinic will provide you with a very accomplished staff and will have a slate of patients chosen for you to see when you arrive. Some practitioners have brought their own staff; which can be accommodated as well. If you are interested in helping us fulfill this need, please feel free to contact Val Gokenbach DM, RN at dr.val@comcast.net

Thank you so much for your help!
