Workers Help Clear Way For New Youth Boxing Home

April 13, 2015

Detroit, Michigan – A whopping 40 volunteers helped clean and clear a large building that is slated to become the new home of the Downtown Boxing Gym (DBG) Youth Program next month.  DBG, a 501©(3) nonprofit which emphasizes “books before boxing,” currently serves 65 students ages 7 through 18, with hundreds more on the wait list.

Workers cleared donated furniture from the building’s loading area, organized the storage room, swept floors, washed walls, and removed unwanted nails, bolts, and screws from walls and baseboards to help prepare for painting and permanent floor installation.

Since 2007, DBG’s emphasis on strong academic support and good citizenship activities along with its demanding boxing program has generated an impressive 100 percent graduation rate among participating students, with 98 percent of them going on to college.
