Tiny Homes, Big Hearts at Cass Community

The painters were on rooftops and ladders. The other crew members filled a dumpster with debris that had been littering a two-block area around Cass Community Social Services’ campus in Highland Park.

The common thread was that they were all volunteers — more than two dozen strong — and all members of Mitch Albom’s A Time to Help team that answered the call to service last Saturday (April 8) to help Cass Community’s Tiny Homes neighborhood.

Detroit Muscle Crew II Ready for Lift Off

In advance of Saturday’s “official’’ launch of S.A.Y. Detroit’s Detroit Muscle Crew II,  Mitch Albom hosted a pizza party on Thursday night at Emagine Royal Oak to thank the nearly two dozen skilled tradespeople who have embraced his call to volunteer service.

“Because of you, we’re going to make a difference in our community,” Albom said.

$1 Million in Radiothon Funds Distributed to 20 Charities

Representatives from 20 area charities accepted checks totaling more than $1 million on Tuesday from donations raised at Mitch Albom’s fifth annual SAY Detroit Radiothon last December.

The ceremony at the Fisher Building included several first-time beneficiaries, including the Bing Youth Institute — a mentoring program for urban youth created by former Detroit Mayor and NBA legend Dave Bing.

Albom, who founded SAY Detroit in 2006, presented the checks to the benefiting charities with Dr. Chad Audi, president of the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, along with representatives of several major donor organizations.
