S.A.Y. Detroit Distributes Radiothon Funds

Detroit, Michigan – April 15– More than a dozen local charities were grateful recipients of $825,000, funds raised from the Third Annual SAY Detroit Radiothon held last December. Representatives from several major donor organizations and the recipient charities gathered on  the 7th floor of the Fisher Building to celebrate what is for S.A.Y. Detroit, “the best day of the year.”

Detroit Charities Rewarded

DETROIT, March 26 – More than a dozen Detroit charities were grateful recipients of more than $400,000 in donations distributed from Mitch Albom’s “S.A.Y. (Super All Year) Detroit Radiothon.”  The monies were collected in a single 15-hour broadcast last December at the Somerset Collection in Troy.

Albom handed out 14 oversized checks at a ceremony held at WJR Radio in Detroit’s FisherBuilding Wednesday morning.  With him was Dr. Chad Audi of the Detroit Rescue Mission, which facilitates the “S.A.Y. Detroit” charity founded by Albom in 2006.

Nearly $400K to be Given Away by S.A.Y. Detroit Radiothon Funds

DETROIT – Ten Detroit charities and their projects – ranging from homes for the homeless to after school music classes – will reap benefits from the funds raised last December by “Mitch Albom’s S.A.Y. (Super All Year) Detroit Radiothon.”  Checks will be handed to each of the ten charities’ representatives at a ceremony this Wednesday, March 26, 10 a.m. at the WJR Radio studios in the Fisher Building on West Grand Blvd.

Nearly $400,000 in donations from Detroit citizens and companies was raised last December at Albom’s second annual “Radiothon” held at Somerset Collection North in Troy.  As a result, each of the following will receive a chunk of the proceeds:

A Home in the Midst of Heartbreak

This afternoon, Banika Jones walked through the doors of a refurbished home on Custer Street in Detroit to the cheers of onlookers. Banika was thrown into the public spotlight in January when she suffered a mother’s worst nightmare–the disappearance of her two year-old daughter, Bianca. Last month, the girl’s father was charged with her murder. Shorty after, Banika learned that she was going to lose her home because of her inability to pay the bills.

Mitch Launches the Detroit Dream Scholars Award

In his continuing partnership with the College for Creative Studies and the Dream Fund, Mitch Albom has donated $60,000 to establish the Detroit Dream Scholars Award. But there’s a catch: he’s challenged 11 other donors in the arts and business communities to join him to build the ‘Detroit Dozen’ in scholarships for a CSS education.
